A couple quick music updates for Thursday morning:
- Gain a live show, swap a drummer: After signing up for the Sons of Bill mailing list yesterday (and gaining a live set download in the process), I received an e-mail that mentioned, among other things, the departure of drummer Brian Caputo and the return of original drummer Todd Wellons. Recently, Caputo has been drumming with Ted Pitney’s band, while Wellons…well, you got me. But he starts thumping for the Sons again in Richmond next Tuesday, and will be with the Sons for opening night at The Jefferson Theater with Jason Isbell. Says the SoB website: "For those of you who don’t remember what Todd Wellons sounds like carrying a groove, pick up your dusty copy of A Far Cry From Freedom and check the boy out."
- After documenting their recent cross-country tour, the Birdlips duo writes on their "Bloglips" that they’re thinking about migrating to San Francisco. Thankfully, the move won’t come before a return to town to play The Southern with Bowerbirds on November 27. The pair is currently living in Washington, D.C., watching Food, Inc. and YouTube videos about cat massages.
- Lights—Drag City’s ladies who fell to Earth—may have one of the least searchable band names ever, but Feedback wants to make sure that’s no excuse for missing the band’s set next Tuesday at the Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar. I saw the group open for Bill Callahan in Richmond a few months ago and, despite what the following video suggests, the live show occasionally veers into Sabbath territory:
