Each week, the news team takes a look at upcoming meetings and events in Charlottesville and Albemarle we think you should know about. Consider it a look into our datebook, and be sure to share newsworthy happenings, too.
- On Tuesday, the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission holds a public forum from 3:30 to 5pm at the Water Street Center, 407 Water Street East, to discuss the district’s Consolidated Plan, which is updated every five years and determines how federal funds for affordable housing get spent in the community. Anybody interested in learning more about how low-income housing is built and supported is invited to come out to the meeting, which will kick off a nine-month planning process.
- The glut of gatherings about development continues Tuesday with the Charlottesville Planning Commission‘s regular meeting at 5:30pm at City Hall and the County Planning Commission‘s at 6pm at the County Office Building. The county is addressing Castle Hill Cidery’s request for a special use permit for a farm cidery license and some other permissions, which would allow the owners of the Keswick property to host events of up to 3,000 people (follow this link for the agenda). The city is holding a public hearing on a 29-unit development off Stonehenge Avenue (that agenda is here).
- The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors meets at 2:30pm Wednesday to hear departmental budget proposals and hold a joint meeting with the School Board to discuss “consideration of additional uses for B.F. Yancey Elementary School,” which officials had discussed closing due to mounting capital costs. Also on the agenda is a discussion of the county’s solid waste disposal options.
- And a heads up: If you still need to register to vote, this is the week to do it. The deadline to register to allow you to vote in November is next Monday, October 15.
