What’s coming up in Charlottesville the week of 10/15

Each week, the news team takes a look at upcoming meetings and events in Charlottesville and Albemarle we think you should know about. Consider it a look into our datebook, and be sure to share newsworthy happenings, too.
  • The Charlottesville City Council holds its regular third-Monday meeting today at 6pm. The consent agenda includes appropriations for Victim Witness Assistance Program Grant and a proffer from a developer for $20,000 to build a trail along Moore’s Creek at Longwood Drive, among other items, as well as a resolution in support of a new regional library agreement and. Councilors will also vote on the same resolution in support of the Equal Rights Amendment that the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors recently struck down. There are public hearings scheduled for the conveyance of a right-of-way on Preston Avenue to Region Ten and a the filing of a petition to the court regarding when to schedule a special election to fill the vacant City Treasurer position, a constitutional office empty since Jennifer Brown stepped down last month.
  • The Charlottesville Board of Architectural Review meets at 5:30pm Tuesday, October 16. The BAR’s agenda hasn’t been posted, but it’s likely a couple of new projects destined for West Main Street will go before the Board. The county’s BAR also meets this week at 1pm today in room 241 at the County Office Building.
  • On Tuesday at noon, the county is hosting a “How to Do Business with Albemarle County” workshop intended to demystify working with local government. The lecture, which should last an hour and will take place in the Chamber Conference Room, will offer an overview of key regulations, licensing, and business resources, as well as contacts for help in understanding how to meet regulations and qualify for grants.
  • Residents are invited to give feedback on the city’s Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Map in the first of three open meetings, this one from 6-8pm Wednesday, October 17 at Buford Middle School. Check out http://www.charlottesville.org/plancville/ for more info.
