The man arrested in connection with the August 14 fatal wreck on Route 151 in Albemarle County is a noted Charlottesville author and world renowned journalist whose work has appeared in publications including National Geographic, Vanity Fair, and The New Yorker. Fifty-five year old Donovan James Webster, who several years ago served as the interim editor of Virginia Quarterly Review, is charged with a first offense DUI, according to Albemarle County General District Court records. According to a police press release, additional charges against him are possible after the investigation and crash reconstruction is complete.
The accident took place on at 6:27pm and involved two vehicles and a tractor trailer. Seventy-five-year-old Wayne Thomas White of Waynesboro was killed in the crash. The driver of the truck is not facing any charges, according to police.
Webster, who was a guest on the Inside Charlottesville radio show on July 22, was denied bond on Friday, and is next scheduled to appear in court on October 16, according to the Albemarle General District Court records.
