Months after his hospitalization for critical injuries sustained during an all-terrain vehicle accident near his Charlottesville home, Dave Matthews Band founding member and longtime saxophonist LeRoi Moore died this evening at a hospital in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 46.
A moderator of the dedicated AntsMarching.org fan website posted a brief bio of Moore at 10pm this evening, a bit before Red Light Management publicist Ambrosia Healy confirmed Moore’s death with the Associated Press; it seems fitting to me that the fans of a band with such a devoted following would have the news first.

The final song that Moore performed, according to a setlist on Ants Marching from the band’s June 28 gig at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Virginia, was a cover of "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again)," a song written by Sly & the Family Stone—a tune that deals with, among other things, industry pressures, the simple joys of music and honesty. The song includes the lines "Thank you for the party, but I could never stay. Many things are on my mind, words are in the way." Video of this final performance is below:
